Introduction to the Urdu Language

Urdu belongs to the Indic group of the Indo-European family of languages. It is the national and one of two official languages of Pakistan, where it is the mother tongue of about 10 million people and spoken fluently as a second language by around 80 million more. The Urdu language is also widely spoken in India, with approximately 50 million Muslims using it as their first language. It is one of the official languages recognized by the Indian constitution.
